I am a 22-year-old graduate and I am fresher. I got an ESSEC MiM admit. I am afraid of making a decision. I want to join IB( I have no prior background in Finance). Can getting an apprenticeship or full-time be difficult? How about my future post-MiM? I want to join fancy IBs like Goldman Sachs, JPMC, etc.
Please help me: Should I go?
If yes, how should I prepare myself for that?

Many are saying that the job market is terrible there. So is it actually safe to go there?

Here are some pointers that can hopefully help you decide:
- While ESSEC has a strong finance reputation, especially in France, breaking into IB without prior finance experience will be challenging. But it's not impossible.
- You are correct, the European job market is indeed challenging, especially for non-EU students who require sponsorship. However, ESSEC has strong alumni in IB, and securing an apprenticeship can certainly improve your chances.
- About how to prepare, start by learning financial modelling & valuation through some online courses on Coursera, etc. Network aggressively by reaching out to ESSEC alumni in IB through LinkedIn. Of course, try to get apprenticeships. Many banks in France hire MiM students via apprenticeships before converting them to full-time.
- Start learning French. It will help immensely with networking and local recruitment.
