Hello everyone,

I’m currently deciding between Schulich and Rotman for my MBA and would love to hear your insights! My background is in tech operations (2.5 years), I did my undergrad in Mathematics, and my post-MBA goal is transitioning into strategy/healthcare.

From what I have seen through my own research, most rankings tend to favour Rotman over Schulich, but from other research it sounds like Schulich and Rotman both essentially offer the same placement opportunities, course content, and reputation. Other discussions say that Rotman is way too expensive for what it offers and Schulich is the better call. So I am a little confused on which school is truly the better option. I am seeing conflicting results between whether Rotman is better, or Schulich is better, or whether both business schools essentially offer the same thing and I should pick whichever feels like the better fit. The same dilemma exists for global recognition, where Rotman is considered a global name but Schulich has a massive international alumni network.

Rotman is Finance focused (not interested), Schulich is Marketing/Accounting focused (not really interested), but both schools offer strong specializations in healthcare management and strategy, which is ultimately what I am seeking. That being said, I do not have a business background so my interests may change once I get to business school and find a topic much more interesting than I anticipated.

I was also admitted to Queens-Smith, but I would rather do a 2 year MBA from Schulich/Rotman to give myself more time and opportunity to learn as much as possible, given that I do not have a business undergrad. Plus, Schulich/Rotman have great connectivity to Toronto (Rotman is downtown and Schulich has a subway transit that gets you downtown in 20 mins).

Additional points:

- After receiving scholarships, Rotman is 20k CAD more expensive.
- In terms of travel, my daily commute to/from Schulich would be 1.5 hours, whereas it would be between 3.5 hours for Rotman, which certainly plays a factor. I could consider living at Rotman but then I would almost be paying double the cost of the Schulich degree.

I would greatly appreciate any insights/advice regarding this dilemma of mine. Thank you in advance for your help!

Congratulations on your admission.

All of the points you have raised are valid.

However, if your goal is to pivot to strategy and healthcare, Rotman may be a better fit and yes, your interests may change once you get in. Regardless of your interests, you will always find Alumni who will be willing to help.

I'm not saying Rotman is all great with no downsides - there are, but if you have to choose between Rotman and Schulich, you can't go wrong with Rotman.

Note: I'm a current Rotman Student.
