Hi everyone, I just received an acceptance from McGill’s Master of Management in Finance (MMF), and I’m also expecting an offer from Duke’s MMS.
I’m a Canadian citizen currently living in Asia with a finance major background, and my long-term goal is to break into investment banking or consulting—ideally in the U.S., with Canada as my second option due to market size.
I’m having trouble deciding between the two programs.
On one hand, Duke offers a much larger alumni network and a stronger brand across North America, which could translate into broader career opportunities. I also really appreciate the “Team Fuqua” culture and collaborative environment. My concern, however, is that the 10-month program might make it challenging to secure a U.S. internship or full-time role, the curriculum appears to focus on broad fundamentals across multiple topics, many of which I’ve already covered during my undergraduate finance studies.
On the other hand, McGill MMF is significantly more affordable (around 30k vs. 70k at Duke). It also provides hands-on experience through Desautels Capital Management, and many graduates go on to buy-side roles. My worry is that McGill’s brand may not be as competitive in major U.S. financial hubs like New York or Chicago.
I’d really appreciate any thoughts or advice on which program might be the better option. Happy to discuss!
