Hey
math312 - this is a really good problem to be in! Kellogg’s FC Austin scholarship is quite prestigious and gives you access to some exclusive resources and network that’ll help you achieve your professional goals.
I’ll look at this decision from the following perspectives:
1. Short-term gains:
• which school will get me to the industry and function that I want to be in after my MBA?
As far as I know, being M7 schools, Kellogg and CBS both offer a great career opportunity to all. Not to disregard the fact that CBS has traditionally been a relatively better Finance-oriented school. I’d recommend you explore resources and classes at these two schools and see which one aligns better with your goals.
• What about short-term financial trade-off of choosing one school over the other?
As you mentioned, CBS is practically just $20k per year more expensive and that too you’re trying to negotiate. So, there’s not a huge financial trade-off in picking either school.
•Which school will help me be in the location of my choice after my MBA?
CBS being in NYC provides easier access to NYC and east coast, but I have tons of friends at Kellogg who moved to NYC for their internship or full-time role. Think of it this way- do you need to network with potential employers in person? If so, NYC makes sense.
2. Long-term gains: (you gotta find out the answers to these)
• which school will help me with better professional network in the long term?
• is there a significant brand value differentiation that’ll aid me in any way in future?
• considering my long term goals, is CBS or Kellogg more valued by the industry leaders?
I unfortunately can’t pick up Kellogg or CBS for you, but I hope this answer helped you think structurally to make a well-informed Decision.
