I’ve been admitted to both HKU MBA and HKUST MBA, with HKU offering a 60% scholarship and HKUST offering 30%. My initial preference is HKUST, but the cost difference is significant for me and is making me lean toward HKU.
From my research and conversations so far, the gap between the two programs does not seem huge. HKU appears to have the stronger overall university brand name, while HKUST is often described as having the better MBA program and somewhat stronger placements. That said, I’m still struggling to understand whether HKUST has a clear enough edge to justify the extra cost.
I’m an Indian applicant targeting post-MBA finance roles, so I’d especially value input from anyone who has compared the two schools for finance recruiting, alumni network, brand in Hong Kong, and long-term career outcomes.
Is there a strong reason to choose HKUST over HKU despite the higher cost? Or is HKU the more sensible option given the scholarship gap?
My profile - have 5 years ish work ex at a global hedge fund (backend research role) , looking to shift into front end finance roles post mba.
