Profile Evaluation for ISB.

Question

Hi,

I am looking to apply for ISB PGP for 2026 class and wanted to see if someone could review my profile so that I can work on it.

10th Class - 80%
12th Class - 80%

Graduation - BCom Professional — Christ University - 3.4/4 & 8.5/10.

Along with graduation I have also cleared my CIMA papers.

1 Research paper published.

Extra curricular - I was the CR of my class throughout the graduation

Work ex - I have exactly 4 years and 3 months work experience as of Jan 2025. 
Worked with a CA firm in in the startup section handling 4 startups for 1.5 years
And from then on have been handling whole finance function from 
book closure to financial modelling for 2 startup companies, which are sister concerns.

One is in the Alcobev space and another in coffee restaurant chain.

I am preparing for my GMAT right now, but I wanted to know 2 things:

1. I understand that higher the GMAT, higher the chances, but realistically speaking,
what is the minimum GMAT score I should target to have a good chance.

2. The job is really demanding, but I want to get into ISB, so apart from getting a good GMAT score, 
Do I do something else also to better my chances? If yes, some suggestions would be really Helpful.

Hi MJ2809 I hope you are doing well. I have successfully helped CAs get into the ISB PGP cohorts and have also done targeted ding analysis on CA profiles, so I have an accurate idea of which parts work and which do not. Feel free to have a focused discussion with me. But overall, I see great potential in your profile. Profiles that have worked with startups, organisations involved in turnarounds/liquidation strategies/M&A/scaling up/IB are some of the best pre-MBA roles that CAs could talk about, also because these roles showcase the need for an MBA. However, you need to be strategic to present yourself as an enabler and not an observer as is often the case with CAs in larger teams.

Specific to your questions

1. I understand that higher the GMAT, higher the chances, but realistically speaking,
what is the minimum GMAT score I should target to have a good chance.

Coming from a finance background, do not be fooled into thinking ISB will overlook your GMAT performance. Aim for 675 to be safe. I have seen ISB waitlist (although eventually admit) some exceptional CA profiles because of GMAT, but why not make the effort if you can)

2. The job is really demanding, but I want to get into ISB, so apart from getting a good GMAT score,
Do I do something else also to better my chances? If yes, some suggestions would be really Helpful.

Your GMAT and application should be your main focus at this point. Success depends on what you have to say about what you have done and what you will do. You need to unpack your experiences and reconstruct your stories to demonstrate that working on business-oriented projects at your current company has equipped you with direct engagement with leadership, hands-on experience, experiential maturity, and the ability to contextualize business problems specific to your field of work - better than many profiles applying with similar age and experience.

Admissions officers have a weakness for applicants who are, in the well-traveled term, "passionate" about pursuing their dreams. It is only human to respond to enthusiasm. Schools will use the essays to make an indirect assessment of the quality of your mind and thought process. Do you think critically about the problems in your company or the industries you have been working with (alcobev/ coffee)? Can you craft a compelling case that links your past, your goals, and your respective target schools? What is your unique story?

Ideally, you should target a score in excess of 675 on the GMAT.

It will be important for you to garner some impactful stories during your time with the startups. Besides, seeing how you can showcase leadership potential will be important to.

Hi,

The idea of the higher the GMAT, the higher the chances is changing pretty fast. In fact GMAT is just one of the aspects, an important one though. So as high as you can score on the GMAT should be a good benchmark, try a 665 or higher.

Another variable is extremely important now is how do you stand out amongst the very competitive pool of applicants. What is that one thing that differentiates you amongst other top performers from the same background?

Right now, your experience (from what you have shared here) looks strong in book closure, financial modeling, compliance. For ISB, you can think of adding more of ownership of strategic decision-making, cross-functional leadership, and external impact. For example, you could lead a cost-reduction initiative to improve financial efficiency.

Something else that you can do is maybe step into mentoring early-stage founders on business finance, cash flow planning, investor readiness, and compliance. Such an activity can highlight impact.

These are some of the things that come to mind now. Introspection and brainstorming will be key.
