Hello Everyone!

These are the details of my profile(GEM):

Education:
  • 10th Standard: 95%
  • 12th Standard: 94.5%
  • B.Tech: Mechanical Engineering from T3 college (9.21 CGPA)
Extra-Curriculars:
  • Athletics: Represented at the district and state levels in basketball.
  • University Sports: Participated in various inter-college basketball tournaments.
  • Leadership: Served as a School Prefect.
Work Experience:
  • Industry: 4 years of experience in the automobile sector with 1 promotion.
  • Role: Currently serving as a Project Manager.
Target:
  • GMAT Focus Edition
  • Goal: ISB Round 1 Admission

Any suggestions on my profile and tips for GMAT prep (tentative target score) with my ongoing 9-5 job would be appreciated.

This is actually a nice, well-rounded profile to start with. You have done a lot of things right already, so you are in a good place.

- On the GMAT, do not lock yourself into a target score. Prepare with the mindset of pushing for the 99th percentile. When you aim that high, you usually end up hitting your personal best anyway.

- For work experience, your role is fine. What will really matter is how clearly you show your impact. Focus on the problems you’ve solved, what changed because of your work, and both qualitative and quantitative impact. The promotion is a strong positive, so make sure you can explain what led to it.

- Your extracurriculars are good and show consistency. One thing you can do now is add some recent involvement as well. It could be community work, mentoring, or even team-building initiatives at work. Having something current alongside past achievements always strengthens the profile.

Solid foundation, and the 9.21 CGPA from a T3 engineering background is actually a quiet asset for ISB because it neutralizes the academic-rigor question before it even gets asked. Let me push you past the standard 675-target advice you're already getting.

- ISB's PGP applicant pool is heavily Indian male engineer, so the real game isn't hitting the median, it's giving the adcom a reason to pick you over the next mechanical engineer in the stack. Your differentiator isn't the score, it's the automobile-sector narrative, which is rarer in the PGP cohort than IT or consulting profiles.
- On GMAT, aim higher than the median, not at it. For an overrepresented bucket, a Focus score in the 685 to 695 range (roughly Classic 740 to 750) shifts you from in-the-pool to standing-out. The marginal prep hours to get from 665 to 685 are the highest-ROI hours you'll spend on this application.
- Project Manager at 4 years is a title that needs unpacking. Adcoms read PM roles carefully because the title varies wildly. Quantify scope: budget owned, team size, cross-functional stakeholders, plant or product impact. If you can frame even one project as a P&L or efficiency story with a number attached, you're suddenly in a different bucket.
- The basketball thread is more useful than you think, but only if you show progression and leadership in it, not just participation. Captaincy, coaching juniors, building something around the sport. Otherwise it reads as a list, not a story.
- For an R1 working-professional prep plan, treat Quant accuracy as the floor and DI as the lever. Most engineers leave 20 to 30 points on the table in DI because they prep it last.

Lock the GMAT by June end/early July at the latest so essays get the bandwidth they actually need.
