Your work experience likely offers good examples that can highlight your leadership potential. Have you given some thought to your post-MBA goals—are you considering automotive consulting or exploring other paths?
A GMAT Focus Edition score of 675+ would significantly strengthen your chances.

All the Best!

Happy to connect if you’d like to discuss your profile in more detail.

Hi, thank you for the feedback. Post MBA goals, I would prefer Automotive.

Also, if I delay my application till 28 intake, how would that additional year of work ex impact the GMAT FE score requirement?

It’s unlikely to make a significant difference, as the average score is already around 675

Hey Tovio hope this finds you well

Fellow former automotive industry professional here. The only thing that will really help you stand out is your story. Moving from a GET to the business side is good progression, but I can sense that you are focusing a bit too much on the numbers and risk losing your differentiation if you are not intentional about how you present the story with every achievement.
For example, why would an N% improvement in revenue feel exciting to read without understanding what strategy you used to drive that change? This may seem like a small point, but if you start looking at all your projects from this lens, your entire application and even the resume can be elevated. The why and how matter, on the resume and in the essays, though most ISB applicants tend to overlook this.
Also, bring focus to the incremental responsibilities you took on compared to your peer group. Show how you engaged with complex problems at different levels and contributed meaningfully. Profiles like yours are not uncommon at ISB, so beyond the engineer-to-business transition, you need to look hard for other differentiators. Did you work with international stakeholders, clients, or projects?
I would also suggest that when you are eligible, you consider applying to IIM Ahmedabad PGPX as well. The feeder pipelines for strategic post-MBA roles for profiles like yours are quite strong there, also in case ISB does not convert. Feel free to reach out should you want more guidance.

Wondering how your profile stacks up? Get a free profile evaluation and discuss a tailored MBA plan that aligns with your goals.

Best wishes

Hello Tovio,

You already have a good profile and are definitely on the right track for ISB. A few things done well from here can make it even stronger.
  • Academics are good overall. Your GPA is definitely a positive and your academic leg looks stable throughout.
  • Right now, biggest focus should be GMAT. Don’t prepare with a “safe score” mindset. Prepare for the highest percentile possible. Usually when you aim for 99th percentile preparation, you end up reaching your peak score.
  • Your work experience is actually quite interesting for ISB. The nature of role in automotive business development with operations exposure can be differentiating.
  • The progression from Graduate Engineer Trainee to Sr. Business Development Engineer is good and shows growth early in career.
  • Going ahead, focus on collecting strong stories from work:

    • situations where you solved problems
    • handled stakeholders
    • improved revenue, profitability, or processes
    • created qualitative and quantitative impact through your role
  • Extra-curriculars are fine. Going forward, try to stay active in something recent as well so that it comes across as a consistent part of your personality and not only from earlier years.
  • At this stage, your priorities should simply be:

    • doing well at work
    • building strong leadership or impact stories
    • getting the best possible GMAT score
    • staying active in extracurriculars and community initiatives
Overall, this is a competitive base profile already. A strong GMAT and well-presented application can make you a solid ISB candidate.

We encourage you to inquire with us so we can schedule a free strategy session for guiding you.

Thanks and all the best!
