Hi there!
I am 31 Indian working as quants with a financial analytics company. Past exp was with a brokerage firm.
Total exp is 4 years. Passed Engg with 73%, MBA from top 30 India college with 75%. Got 96 percentile in CAT.
Planning to write GMAT this Oct. Expectation: Around 720. Hope to join any Phd Finance in fall 2015.
Research Exp:
Experience of trading strategy research in previous company. Secondary research.
Teaching Exp:
Took a guest lecture in a MBA college last year
Took a few knowledge sharing sessions in current organisation
Designed a few technical modules
I have very minimal savings so will be fully dependent on stipend/ scholarship if any. My wife will also accompany me. I was thinking to go for Canada as the cost of living is somewhat on the lower side. However I have heard US universities pay better stipends.
Is my profile suitable for gaining an admission? Can anyone enlighten me on the positives and negatives of both the places?

Number of Universities offering PhD programs for business students are too many in US as compared to Canada, and they also pay good stipend. Canada is good for those who want to work over there and get work permit as well. because it is not easier in US. now everything depend on your priorities. 700+ is a good score to get admission but I am not sure about your credit hour equivalency in US. So first of all you start searching Universities, talk to their representative and see whether your credit hours are equal or not. on the other hand most of the universities will ask you to get equivalency from reputable international organizations working for this reason.. The thing is, you must start conversation with Universities. Don't go for top universities as they will require very strong profile.

US universities do pay better stipends and they tend not to require teaching of you. If you really want a research career, you would be best sticking with a top 50 place in the US; or, in Canada: McGill, Toronto, UBC, or maybe Simon Frasier.
That said, a 720 GMAT isn't going to get you in to the top 10 and maybe even the top 30; finance is very competitive. Your work experience is useful; your teaching experience is neutral but I would not emphasize it too much or many schools will think you aren;t interested in research. (And that's the kiss of death in most PhD programs.)
