So, I am looking at going into a doctoral program in fall of 2015, and I was wondering if you would evaluate my profile. Thanks!
-3.98 Undergrad GPA, BBA Accounting at a regional state university
-3.8 Graduate GPA, Masters in Accounting at a regional state university
-CPA license
-By then I will have 2.5 years experience at a national public accounting firm that deals primarily in government and healthcare auditing.
-Last time I took the GMAT I made a 620. I was playing around though, because I had to get around a 420 to get into my MAcc program, and it was close to the end of my senior year. I am planning on retaking the exam.
I have had both undergraduate and graduate course in Statistics and Finance, and undergraduate classes in economics. I believe I will have to take a couple of calculus courses before I start a program, but I don't think they should be too difficult. My one B in undergrad was in Algebra, but it was a high B, and I forgot a side of an exam, so I don't consider myself too weak in math, I just haven't done most of it in a while.
I want to go to Emory, Georgia, or UT Austin, and I'm thinking about also applying to University of Florida, Georgia State, and, if all else fails, University of Memphis. What do you think my chances are of getting into a good program with those credentials, and say a 680-720 GMAT score? Also, what other schools should I consider?
Emory is my first choice because of their medical school, and I would like my research to be in the area of auditing, with emphasis, if possible, on governmental programs and healthcare auditing. It seems like it should be an interesting, growing field of study. However, Emory is also probably the hardest school to get into on my list.
Final questions- What can I do to improve my profile? Also, I live in the same city as one of the schools, and I was wondering if it would be a good idea for me to seek out a face to face meeting with them to discuss how to proceed, and if so, what questions should I ask?
