It's pretty much the same. Look at CMU, Stanford or Chicago's PhD in Finance curriculum.. it looks alot like what HBS offers.

If you got admitted to the PhD program, then you will be garunteed money in the form of fellowships, or TA, RA positions. But getting admitted is the hard part.

what do you need in terms of gmat/gpa to be competitive for havard?

Harvard ain't an easy-to-go university this might help

Don't focus solely on test scores and GPA to carry your application. Students admitted to Harvard Business School in 2020 on average had a 3.7 undergrad GPA, 4.7 years of work experience, and a 730 median GMAT score. While these numbers can indicate success, they don't guarantee admission
