6. If Your Track Is Returning to Your Current Employer

Question. Describe the role you intend to return to post-MBA (500 characters)

Beyond just the title you expect to have explain what will be different about the role.

If you are returning to the same organisation, Oxford should understand why they would bring you back at a different level or with a broader mandate.

For example:

“I intend to return to [company] as [role], taking responsibility for [specific business/function/geography]. Having worked on [current area], I would move into a broader mandate spanning [X and Y], with responsibility for [specific decisions/outcomes]. Over time, I aim to lead [larger function/business], helping [company] achieve [specific objective].”

The important thing is progression.

Question. How will the MBA help you add value to your organisation? (500 characters)

This should not become a list of MBA skills. Don't say:

“The MBA will strengthen my leadership, strategic thinking, finance and communication skills.”

Instead, start with the organisation's needs.

What will the organisation expect me to do after I return that I am not fully equipped to do today?

Then connect the MBA to that gap.
For example:

“My current experience has given me depth in [X], but my post-MBA role will require me to make broader decisions across [X/Y/Z]. I need stronger exposure to [specific capability], particularly [specific area]. The MBA will broaden my understanding through [relevant experience], allowing me to return better equipped to [specific initiative/decision] and contribute beyond my current functional remit.”

The strongest version will contain a specific organisational problem or opportunity. If your company is entering a new market, scaling a business, transforming a function, launching a product, or moving from functional execution to broader strategy, that is the story.

Question. Does your plan to return involve relocating to a different office? (500 characters)

This is more straightforward, but don't treat it as a throwaway administrative question. If yes, explain why that location matters to the role, not simply that you “would prefer” to move there.

For example:

“Yes. I intend to relocate from [current location] to [new location], where [company's relevant business/function/team] is based. The move would place me closer to [customers/markets/regional headquarters/leadership team] and is important to my post-MBA role because I would be responsible for [specific mandate].”

If no, you don't need to manufacture complexity:

“No. I intend to return to my current office in [location], where the team I would join and the business I would oversee are based. My post-MBA responsibilities would expand in scope rather than require a change in location.”
