My estimated score right now based on the magoosh dashboard is 31-39 on quant 22-30 on verbal.I have answered 228 and 150 respectively (inside the time limit). My original diagnostic was 37 on quant (mba . co m) but i wasn't very focused while doing it.I also didn't know a lot of quant vocabulary since my monther tongue is greek i didn't even know what a prime number is or what a factor is (in english ofcourse ) . My verbal was 20 but i have done one more (only the verbal part) with a lot more concentration and pulled out a 29.Do you believe i can get a 650 ?
Dear born222,
I'm happy to respond. :-)

My friend, a 650 is somewhat of a reach from where you are now. You definitely can achieve this, but this will require a great deal of work. You told me about all the practice problems in Magoosh that you are doing. I have a couple questions.
1) Are you watching the Magoosh lessons? Many students make the mistake of binging on practice questions, mistakenly thinking that doing a large number of questions will lead to learning.
2) Are you watching the video explanations for every single questions you get wrong?

I assume you know about the Magoosh flashcards:
GMAT Math Flashcards
GMAT Idiom Flashcards

To get to the next level, you will have to do more than you are doing now. Keep practice questions. Watch lessons & VEs.

On the math side, you should practice mental math every day. Don't touch a calculator anywhere in your life. I want you to start doing as much math as possible in your head, in every facet of your life.

On the verbal side, you need to read. Over and above any GMAT-specific material, you need to challenge yourself with sophisticated reading in English. See:
How to Improve Your GMAT Verbal Score

To make these improvements, you will have to embrace all the habits of excellence. See a discussion of this here:

Please let me know if you have any questions! Best of luck, my friend!

After going through mgmat sentence correction and your videos i have improved my verbal from 20-28 to 29-36 and my quant to 33-41 based on your dashboards. I will be sitting my first mgmat test in 2 weeks. I am getting closer to my goal . If i am able to score 600 on my first test then i will have more than 3 months to make it to 650 . I am contentiously learning and adapting to this awkward test.

I would also like to ask you when should i revise? I have taken down notes from your videos .

Dear born222,
I'm happy to respond. :-)

The first thing I will say is that, while the Magoosh dashboard estimate is good, I would strongly urge you to take one of the GMAT Prep tests before your real exam, because that material is official material, and that estimate would be the best you could get before the exam.

While I understand that GMAT is a difficult challenge, especially for a non-native speaker, I would urge you to re-frame your relationship with the exam in less than "contentious" way. Relish the challenge. Let the difficulty of the exam call out what is best in you. Let the high standards of the exam reflect to you the heights of which you are capable.

Finally, I will apologize: I am sorry that I do not understand what you are asking when you say: "when should i revise?" Please clarify.

I have also managed to boost my quant score from 31-39 to 40-44 just by redoing all the medium difficulty quant questions i got wrong way back when i started preparing. They were very easy this time and i was able to answer them within the time limit , i didn't even remember the solutions. I managed to get 90% correct . Maybe those silly mistakes in the begging were dragging my dashboard score way down.

Now i am at 40-44 quant and 29 - 36 in verbal. Today i also did 10 sc questions (6 were hard and 4 were medium) and i managed to get 8 out of 10 correctly and 1 of the 2 mistakes i did was a silly one in a medium difficulty question  .

What i wanted to say is : When should i revise what i have been tough so far? I think that i have forgotten some things.Should i dedicate one day per week ?

If i am at around 600 now that means i have around 3 months to make it to 650 and around 7 books of mgmat to read.Even if i don't get a 650 in September i will continue to read until i reach my goal.
I have also bought manhattan gmat advanced quant. When should i read this?

Dear born222,

My friend, I would say: do some review of older material every single day. I think it's a profound mistake to make studying too uniform on any one day: today, I will study just this, and tomorrow, just that. I think it's extremely important to get used to switching gears. On the GMAT, over the course of four hours, you will have to do everything. Therefore, as much as possible, you should be doing a little of everything every single day. Do some verbal, do some quant, do some review--- keep on cycling through. It's a fallacy to think we can learn with a "once and done" model or even review in a "once and done" way. All deep learning requires multiple exposures to the material, returning again and again to the ideas until you completely own them. If you want to get up into the elite territory of the GMAT, 650+, you need to pursue study patterns that will support the brain's natural capacity for deep learning.

Does all this make sense?
Mike :-)
