dear experts, i need your guide how to improve my verbal score from 16 to 40.

my current biggest barrier is reading comprehension. i read very very slow for tagged 600-700 passages, 6min for short passage, 10min for long passage, but low accurancy, about 20~50%

when i read the passage, i feel i cannt get the logic or main idea,also i have problem to locate for detail questions
but when i redo the passage, my accuracy will be improve, maybe i get some clues from the questions, maybe i know some answer choices are wrong.

i had read manhanttan guide many times, seems not very helpful, i watched ron’s RC video. i feel not hard for me, but when i crash rc alone, i feel i am like a beginner

i know i should get the main idea, get the views of different group, who are in same side, who are not, why i do the passage i cannot get skills.

please

To really master RC, the absolute most important thing that you should be doing is reading. Read as much as you can, every day, for at least an hour (the more the better!). Read hard, challenging material in English, such as articles from The Economist, The Atlantic, The New York Times, or The New Yorker. And while you're reading, it's important to make sure that you're reading actively. That means constantly thinking critically about what you're reading, and trying to summarize and identify the main point of the articles. As you're reading, ask questions like:

  • What is the main idea?
  • What is the structure and flow of the passage?
  • What is the author's tone and what is the author's purpose?

Although it might not seem like this would make a big difference, reading is the best thing you can do to increase your overall comprehension, which is absolutely necessary for RC questions :)

Next, spend some time working on strategy. Here is a collection of articles which discuss the key RC strategies:


Spend some time going through the strategies addressed in those articles, and try to incorporate them as much as you can into your practice! Over time, you will improve :)
