Hello everyone!
I would really appreciate it if someone helped me by replying to this post.
Here is my is my story:
I downloaded the GMAT Prep Software and Test simulation and scored a depressing 400 Q24 V 21.
I later went to a Kaplan facility and scored a 510 Q30 (15 correct 22 incorrect) and V38 (29 correct 12 incorrect) on a free practice test that they gave me.
I must also clarify that I am graduating from Psychology and am planning to do a career switch by applying to MIM in Europe.
As we already know the average GMAT score of the students that are admitted to these programs is 700, and for a candidate to be even considered they must score 600 or more.
I am a very hardworking person and although math has never been one of my strengths, in the few courses that were part of my program like Math 101, Math 103 and two statistics courses that I had to take in college, I was able to obtain A's and B's by really pushing myself to study.
I know that it IS possible for someone to obtain a 700 even if their initial score is a 400, but I would like to know if anyone with a similar experience, can share with me an idea of how long it will take for me to prepare. I am willing to postpone graduate school from the 2013 intake to the 2014 intake if that is what it takes.
How many months of studying and how many hours of preparation do I really need to invest in order to have a chance of increasing my score to 700+?
AGE: 24
Current GPA: 3.4 (trying to raise it to a 3.5 before graduation)
Location: Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo
Current University: Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM)
Graduation: December 2012 (I have allready finished all of the courses that are part of my program, but a full-time internship and finishing my thesis dissertation is currently occupying all of my time until December. I will finish the internship on the 21st of this month and I am supposed to present my thesis in November) So until then I have little time on my hands for studying. Afterwards I could dedicate full time to the GMAT.
Schools I would like to apply to Master's in Management

Hi Puchunga,
It's very hard to predict how long an individual student will take to reach a given score. 190 points improvement is huge, and some students spend years trying to improve that much; but on the other hand, if you had told me you wanted to increase your score by 110 points, I might have told you that would take weeks or months, and it looks like you jumped that much very quickly between your two practice tests!
However, at Kaplan, we use the 150 hour rule of thumb as a guideline. This means 2-4 months, depending on your weekly study time, and it's a good goal to aim for as far as score increases are concerned.
