I need help about a sentence correction question I met in GMAT Club Test Center. I attached the question screenshot.
I could not understand why past perfect tense should not be used for this question. There is a "before" relationship between two sentence so that an event realized in a specific time before some event. I think the conditions are suitable for past perfect tense.

Thanks in advance!
