Choosing EMBA

Question

I have a GMAT score of 610, 11 years experience in IT field primarily in Data warehousing. I did Engineering in Computer Science with a GPA of 3.7 and Masters in Information Technology with a CGPA OF 9.3/10. Can someone please suggest a good EMBA program that would help me further my career. I am looking for courses in west coast.

Are you just looking for a list of EMBA programs on the west coast? That's pretty easy to do - almost every large institution out here has one. If you're looking for fit, then you've not really given us much information to go on. What are you looking to do with your career? GMAT and GPA etc, are just numbers that get your foot in the door.

As most of my experience is in Data warehousing, I would like to build my career in Data Science. Probably leadership roles in Data Science, for which I need to acquire Data Science skills, along with leadership skills. I felt UC Berkeley course in Data Science is a better fit for my aspirations, though it is not an EMBA. I am not exactly sure, if there are EMBAs that would help me in this direction, even if it is not in west coast. Thanks for your help.

Thanks that helps. If you're looking to progress within a function, then the question may be "is an MBA the best way for you to achieve that goal?". At the risk of being simplistic, maybe consider what others have done who hold the sorts of positions that you aspire to?

If you know that an MBA is well aligned with those goals, then the choice of school will become more important. I wouldn't look at an EMBA as a way to improve your technical skills - you should be bringing those to the table already - but it can be a great way to build on business skills you don't have. I'm currently at Haas and there is a strong tech representation here; the connections to silicon valley are very real and the networks to VC are undeniable. If entrepreneurship is in your future then it's a strong option. However there are other schools that are always in play - Wharton in SF, Anderson/UCLA, etc. My personal opinion is that program fit is king - you'll do best and learn the most at the school that fits your learning style and objectives best. You can use school websites and general information from boards like this to narrow your options, but then class visits and meeting faculty and students is by far the best way to get to know what school might be right for you.
