I am a 38 years old chartered accountant from Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales with British citizenship.
Originally, from Pakistan, have a Big4 background and have worked with a leading global Engineering Conglomerate for around 12 years. (In Pakistan – 3 years, UK -6 years and Germany -3 years in various Business Finance, Projects Controlling, Commercial and Audit roles).
I have now moved to Middle East with a reputable group dealing in major engineering and industrial franchises and JV partnerships, planning to be here for next 6 years and would be settling in USA where my parents and family is based (limitation of family green card petition). With my age of 38, after 6 years I would be 44 and desperately would like to upkeep myself so when I move to US at the age of 44 I have competitive chances of being hired.
I had a chat with several career counselors from USA and they have suggested MBA (which I always planned for) but from leading US business schools. Since now I will be based in Middle East travelling to US will be a challenge, hence I have shortlisted Chicago Booth (London Campus), Duke Fuqua (Global MBA in different locations)Kellogg-WHU (German Campus; its lowest on the list as I don’t know how this joint MBA will be seen in USA but its comparatively cheaper and shorter).
However, I have seen that Insead Grads have strong chances of taken up by MBB and from there US placement doesn’t seem so difficult. Insead is in Dubai and has shorter program (15 months and have lesser costs $115k compared to average $150k for US programs). This lures me towards Insead…. But I do recognize that all my qualifications are UK dominated and I need a strong US brand!
With your experience, please help me with the choice;
OPTION 1 : Insead : I should go with Insead in next 2-3 years (rather than waiting for 6 years) and move to US via a MBB based in Middle East and get settled earlier!
OPTION 2 : US Based shortlisted B Schools : First what should be the choice? Secondly, Go ahead with a top US based Business School (one of those shortlisted) and then search for the roles when I get there after 6 years!
Ideally I would love to spend a few years with MBB, get some rich consultancy experience and then move to a CFO/CEO level role.
