CBS EMBA NY-Saturdays Deadline Extended: March 10 – How to Make It The Columbia EMBA program is one of the most prestigious MBA programs around. For some candidates, the New York-Saturdays program is the most attractive of Columbia’s EMBA offerings. Some candidates greatly value the fact that this program only meets on Saturdays and will not disturb their typical work week. Others appreciate that they do not need to secure a corporate sponsor letter. So, if a candidate is in a professional situation in which their company may not want to okay their participation in an EMBA program, those circumstances will not stand in the way because the candidate can apply without their company’s approval or support.
Columbia has extended the deadline for this excellent EMBA program to March 10. Is it possible to make this deadline with 8 days to go? Yes!
Your main task is to put together outstanding essays along with an excellent resume. You will need only one letter of recommendation (rather than the typical two recommendations for an EMBA program). You also need an Executive Assessment score.
Consider taking these steps if you want to make the March 10 deadline:
•
Essays. Begin to draft your essays. Some candidates can draft on their own, but if you find you are expending too much time drafting your responses, you can seek the support of a reputable consultant who can help you outline your essays so that you draft the ideal content from the beginning and do not need extensive re-writing. Columbia’s topics are very manageable, so you should be able to draft and revise excellent essays in the course of a week.
•
Recommendation. Ask a superior as soon as possible to write a recommendation for you. Give them solid guidance about what sort of topics on which to focus and examples of your impact and leadership at work. The recommendation only needs to be about 6-7 paragraphs long, so you have adequate time to get that prepared before the deadline.
•
Resume. Revise your resume so that it is the best application resume possible. You want the resume to be a highly effective snapshot of your candidacy that makes the admissions committee want to admit you from the beginning. Remember, there is a difference between a job resume and an application resume, so make sure to add in the relevant credentials that the admissions committee values when admitting candidates.
Please note, it should still be possible to update your resume after you submit it with the application. So, the resume can be one of the last items on your list because you can likely revisit it shortly after the official deadline, sending in an updated version, if needed.
•
Executive Assessment score (or GMAT/GRE score). You will need to submit an Executive Assessment (EA), GMAT, or GRE score. Most candidates take the EA because it requires less study time than the GMAT or GRE. If you are just beginning to prepare for your standardized exam, you can take the exam shortly before the deadline so you can submit a complete application. If you don’t score at least in the high 140s, you can ask the school for time to re-take the exam or offer to take a course to ensure your quant skills are in shape before matriculation.
