MIT EMBA: How to Make the Final Deadline, May 4The MIT EMBA program is one of the most prestigious MBA programs around. It is hard to imagine that the final deadline, May 4, is only weeks away. Some candidates wonder if they should apply for the final deadline. They wonder if it is too late.
In our experience at MBAAdmit.com, MIT usually still has space in its class as late as the final day of the deadline. We have worked with candidates who applied on the very last day and also interviewed in the very last available spot, and they succeeded in gaining admission. So, if you prefer to begin your studies at MIT in a matter of months rather than wait a full year to matriculate, it may be worth making a hard push to prepare your application in time for the final deadline.
How can you get your application prepared in a matter of weeks? Your main task is to put together outstanding essays along with excellent recommendations. Happily, you do not need an Executive Assessment score, which makes preparing an application before the deadline much more feasible.
Consider taking these steps if you want to make the final deadline:
•
Essays. Begin to draft your essays. MIT has some of the most challenging EMBA application questions around, so take time to focus on excellent topic choices. If you find you are spending too much time drafting your responses or are very uncertain about your topic choices, you can seek the support of a reputable consultant who can help you outline your essays so that you draft the ideal content from the beginning and do not need extensive re-writing. MIT, more than other schools, weeds out candidates who do not present strong essays, and those candidates will not advance to an interview. So, make sure to focus on outstanding content that presents your qualifications in the best possible light.
•
Recommendation. Because MIT, more than many other EMBA programs, values length and quality of work experience, it is important that your recommendations communicate that you have had excellent work experience and will have a great deal to share in class. Ask two professionals who know your work to write recommendations for you. Give them solid guidance about what sort of topics on which to focus and examples of your impact and leadership at work. Be sure to guide your writer so that he or she focuses on qualities that help ensure the admissions committee that you are a top performer and have great future potential.
•
Resume. Revise your resume so that it is the best application resume possible. You want the resume to be a highly effective snapshot of your candidacy that makes the admissions committee want to admit you from the beginning. Remember, there is a difference between a job resume and an application resume, so make sure to add in the relevant credentials that the admissions committee values when admitting candidates.
Please note, it should still be possible to update your resume after you submit it with the application. So, the resume can be one of the last items on your list because you can likely revisit it shortly after the official deadline, sending in an updated version, if needed.
•
Executive Assessment score (or GMAT/GRE score). You don’t need one for MIT! That makes your process of applying much easier.
