Hi everyone,
I’m planning to apply for the following Executive MBA programs for the upcoming intake:
ISB PGP
XLRI PGDGM
IIMA PGPX
IIM Kozhikode PGP-BL
Planning to transition into Technology Consulting roles post-MBA.
Acads
12th: 94%
B.Tech (CSE): 9.16 CGPA (Tier-3 college)
No academic or employment gaps throughout my engineering education and professional career
Work exp-
4.3 years of professional experience (approximately 5 years by March 2027)
Currently working as a Lead Engineer in an AI-based product company (Team Lead for a team of 5, actively contributing to client-facing application design and technical discussions)
Previously worked as a Developer in a large MNC (Had multiple promotions)
Worked with Fortune 30 companies as a vendor and currently working with a Fortune 10 client.
Essays & LOR:
For applications, I’m working with an admissions consultant for my essays and LOR strategy. The essays have shaped up well so far and are almost finalized.
I have decent or may be below average extracurriculars , nothing at the state/national level. My activities include leading hackathon teams during college, organizing major college fest events, and captaining sports teams within my organizations.
Completed an internship before joining my first organization and worked as a part-time Subject Matter Expert at Chegg for CSE related subjects
I’m trying to understand what GRE score would make me reasonably competitive for these programs, given my profile.
I need a genuine advice for each of the schools in terms of the minimum GRE score required. I'd appreciate any help

- Your profile is competitive across all four schools, with IIMA PGPX being the toughest because five years of experience puts you below its current class average of 7.5 years. The good news is that your 9.16 CGPA, multiple promotions, AI-product exposure, team leadership, and Fortune 10/30 client work give you strong evidence of progression. For Technology Consulting, the story is also coherent: developer → technical/team leadership → MBA → client-facing technology transformation/consulting.
- ISB PGP: target 325+, ideally 328+. ISB officially has no minimum GRE score and says it has no preference between GRE and GMAT. For your profile, however, we would not aim merely to clear an imaginary cutoff. Engineering/technology applicants are plentiful at ISB, so a 325+ keeps the score from becoming a weakness, while 328+ would make the academic/testing side comfortably strong.
- IIMA PGPX: target 325-328+, with 328+ preferable. IIMA also does not prescribe an overall minimum, though it advises applicants to target at least the 70th-75th percentile in both GRE Quant and Verbal. More importantly, the 2026-27 PGPX class averaged 323 GRE, while averaging 7.5 years of experience. Since you will enter with only about five years, we would want you above the test average to compensate for being relatively junior in the PGPX pool.
- XLRI PGDM(GM): target roughly 320-325+, and IIMK PGP-BL: target 320-325+, preferably 325+. XLRI currently accepts GRE/GMAT/XAT for PGDM(GM), but its official material does not publish a GRE cutoff, so any claimed “minimum 320/325” should be treated as unofficial. IIMK PGP-BL similarly requires a valid GRE/GMAT/CAT but does not publish a numerical GRE minimum on its PGP-BL admissions page. For both, 320 is usable; 325+ is where we would feel considerably more comfortable with your profile.
- We would therefore set 325 as the practical floor and 328+ as the ideal overall target rather than preparing separately for four different cutoffs. Also, do not worry much about the extracurriculars. At five years of experience, your promotions, leadership of five engineers, client-facing design discussions and measurable technical/business impact will matter far more. One timing point: IIMK’s current Phase 2 closes August 31, 2026, while later phases remain available, so do not sacrifice several GRE points merely to force an earlier submission.
