Hi guys and gals,
I've just graduated from a MSc in Business and into a somewhat unwelcoming job market. I might be facing quite a while before I find a nice job and I am thinking of becoming a GMAT teacher to support myself while looking for a job.
The problem is that the better programs I've found (Veritas and Manhattan) require teaching experience. Mine is limited to teaching English to kids, off the books. How strict is this requirement, and how much experience do they expect? Do they require formally employed experience?
Other than this, Kaplan did not seem to ask for prior teaching experience. Do you know of any other outfits similar in this respect?
Also, do you know whether it would be possible for me to find students directly, without working for an agency, like through ads?
My score is 780/5.5 and I am looking for work in the London area.

Wow, great score!
I would search on the Craigs list (that's where I have seen most of these ads).
The more experience you have of course, the better but companies do take with little prior "official" teaching experience and you can also build up your record doing tutoring.
Now, only a handful of companies offers the top dollar (Veritas and MGMAT are the only ones I know of that pay $100 per hour). Others, more like $35.
Also, it matters where you are. I know some markets have a lot of competition for these teaching jobs (NY and SF) and others (Miami) not so much. If you are in a hot market, then it will be tough landing a job like that.

Thanks! I've also seen private GMAT tutor ads (e.g. www.gmatix.com ) but most of them make a point of mentioning their prior experience. So I think I would have more credibility if I started by working for an established company.
