Ladies n gents, Ive got a couple of questions for those of you who have had, or are going to have, careers in consulting. My post-MBA goal is to move into consulting. My background is in technology strategy for my current company, a major wireless carrier here in Canada. Having said that, I do have the following questions:
1. Are there any consulting companies you guys know of that focus exclusively on telecom carriers as clients ? I.e. some of the boutique firms, etc.
2. For the big firms, is it possible to get recruited directly into a practice, i.e. Telecom, or do you sort of float around as a new grad for a while and then make your request ? If that is the case, how easy is it to move around ?
Thats about it for now ... if you guys need any more info on me or my background, let me know. Thnx.

Quick answers:
1) All major consultancies work with tlc carriers. No consultancy that I know focuses exclusively on them.
2) You are usually recruited as a generalist (especially out of MBA) and get to specify staffing preferences on the company intranet. You may then be staffed immediately on the industry of your choice (especially if you have relevant experience) or may need to wait it out, depending on incoming business. In the medium term, you should be able to get into your desired business if you are into a relevant office.
Take this with a grain of salt as tlc consulting is the very last place I would want to work in!
