How many times do the keys of a typewriter have to be pressed to write the first 500 positive integers

A. 1391
B. 1392
C. 1393
D. 1394
E. 1395

We will just use the following concept:
"Numbers between x and y, inclusive=y-x+1"

From 1 to 9:
9-1+1=9
9*1=9 (Multiplied by 1 because all of them have 1 digit)

10 to 99:
99-10+1=90
90*2=180 (Multiplied by 2 because all of them have 2 digits)

100 to 500
500-100+1=401
401*3=1203 (Multiplied by 3 because all of them have 3 digits)

Total=1203+180+9=1392

Ans: "B"
very straight forward explanation... can use in for other questions as well...thanks
