A is 3 times older than B

Question

Does this mean A=3B or A=4B Because if A is three times older than B, A is 3B older than B. I'm confused. (I'm not a native speaker.)

What is the source of this question?

A is 3 times older than B would mean that if B's age is B, then A's age A will be related as by => A - B = 3B

Thus, A = 4B.

You can also visualize it this way, since A is three times older than B, The difference between A's age and B's would be thrice B's. This is how I got the equation above.

I haven't come across "A is 3 times older than B" too often in GMAT-like questions. It is usually expressed as A is 4 times as old as B.

"is" always means "="

Frank is 98 times taller than Bod ==> F=B+98

A is 3 times older than B
