while preparing for GMAT, I solved first 250 Math questions from OG 10th edition and got about 94% correct answers. My question is - Can anybody from his/her experience tell me what it means to my Math preparation :?: Please note that I have not solved any questions from Kaplan yet. All I have solved is Nova and OG.

I will really appreciate your thoughts.

Hi Mbahopeful,

I have not given GMAT, but I have lot of friends who have, If you solved the questions from the recentmost edition of OG, I am not sure about the standard of the questions. As far as the edition before OG10, recent most one, while solving problems in OG without error is good, the current GMAT maths has left OG far behind. The problems in OG are ridiculously simple, and they would fall under the category of easy maths,,for instance there is no probability at all in OG, which is the typical difficult maths.

I dont mean to upset you but, dont get smug with the way you do OG maths at all, they are just warm ups.

Try practicing the questions in a timed environment similar to test day, where you will have 75 minutes for 37 questions and you "live and die by the clock", to quote other posters. When you add time pressure to your practice, you will have a better idea of where you stand.

Also, Kaplan math is tougher than the real GMAT, so don't panic if you see lower scores on Kaplan.

I think the most difficult questions you will face will be on the actual GMAT. I was quite confident (without studying from OG), had a 100% success rate on GMAT 800, and a 99% on Kaplan GMAT Math Workbook, but scored a 48 on the quants of the actual GMAT. So, I reiterate, success on any book doesn't translate to success on the GMAT. As long as your fundamentals are strong, you should be able to do well on the actual GMAT!
