Yup, it should be 45 km/hr.

Avg Speed(Whole Trip) = Total KM Traveled/Total Hours Traveled

45 is the correct answer. I chose another answer by accident. I guess thats what happens when you try to do a set of qns on your morning commute in the nyc subway :P

Average speed=total distance/total time=120/8/3=45

Well these explanations are gud enuf but we have a simple formula for calculating averages if the distance travelled is the same in both the cases.
The formula goes like this: If X and Y are two speeds for the same distance then the average speed for whole of the trip is (2*X*Y)/(X+Y).

Which gives the answer as 45km\hr
