A circle has a center O at point (0,0) and a radius of 50, and point P has coordinates( 50,0). If point Q is on the circule, what is the length of line segment PQ?
1) the x-coordinate of point Q is -30
2) the y-coordinate of point Q is -40
1) the x-coordinate of point Q is -30
2) the y-coordinate of point Q is -40

Since Q is on the circle and the radius is given.
from 1) you can find the y-coordinate of point (a right triangle can be formed by connecting OQ)
from 2) you can find the y-coordinate of point in the same manner.

Circle can be represented by
x^2+y^2 = 50^2 --(1)
Q is on the circle
1) x- co-ord of Q = -30
=> y = +/-40. Hence Q ia either (-30,40) or (-30,-40)
The distance from (-30,40) to (50,0) and distance from (-30,-40) to (50,0) is the same. Hence SUFF.
2) y- co-ord = -40 => Q is (-30,-40) or (30, -40). The distances are not the same hence INSUFF.
Circle can be represented by
