Guys - I am having a lot of trouble with the word problems in OG 11 - I am pretty much getting a lot of them wrong. This seems to be my weakest point on the test...any suggestions on how I can improve in this area? I believe getting better at this will get me to my desired score range.

I took it on April 25th and got a 640 - Q:38 V:40

I want to improve my quant score to the 44 range and try to pick up 2 more points on the verbal. I also had a timing problem on the quant and it was the lowest quant score I have had on a test in a while (the 2 PP I scogred a 39 and a 42).

So I just finished the entire problem solving section 5.3 in OG 11 and got 214/249 correct - but the ones I got wrong all seemed to be word problems. Sometimes I just cant translate the info - my brain just doesnt see it.

In that case give yourself two to three months. I am not aware of the standards under Pearson but in the old setup (Prometric) you can easily go up to 49 in Q. It is not difficult. You have an advantage that you know you are weak in Word Problems. My suggestion would be to concentrate on the following:

a. Re-do all word problems in OG-11 and OG-Q.
b. Identify word problems from Kaplan Premier and Kaplan 800. They are tough if you go by the standards of GMAT. Do them to gain confidence.
c. Don't go for Princeton. They are not that good.
d. Try the following material. You would get them from Score Top. Though I know they do not always have a lot of regard for copyrights! You can get a lot of good practice material.
- VStudy Books (these are from a Korean site)
- 20 GMAT sets (these are collections of questions)
- Paper GMAT tests (these are also copyright protected)
- GMAT Plus Books (there is a lot of controversy about these books. They are very good for practice but have inaccurate answers and have been in the middle of lawsuits)
- Try the DS and the PS sets that are commonly known as 1000 PS and 1000 DS.

All of these are more than enough to take you to a 49 if you do not make silly mistakes. If you can wait, give yourself 12 weeks before the next attempt. If not, at least wait for 8 weeks.

If you have bad days with word problems just try to draw the schemes
It is very useful in understanding of wordy problems and don't get nuts))
