"x is 1/5 taller than y" means: x=6/5y

whereas

"x is taller than y by 1/5 ft" means: x-y = 1/5

Do you see where your problem was now?

Yep.. agree with all the other posts which said 2/3

Solve by

4+6c = 6/5(4+4c)

where c = constant growth each year.

Let the tree grow x feet each year.

Hence after 1st year = 4+x
after 2nd year = 4+2x

Similarily,
after 4th year = 4+4x
After 6th year = 4+6x

4+6x = 4+4x + 1/5(4+4x)
10x= 4+4x
6x = 4
x = 2/3
