Hi,

I'm at the 48-48 level on the math section. What should I do (apart from the challenges and Kaplan) for math?

Any tips appreciated....

I feel KAPLAN is easier. In 2006 premier edition, I got 100% correct in PS and 98% correct in DS.

Looking at your posts, I can see you are good at maths. Keep solving the problems at the forum and concentrate on avoiding stupid mistakes. I am sure you must be making many.
In almost all tests I make on an average two silly mistakes. Maths is all about practice. I more thing is do not leave maths for more than 2-3 days. This goona kill you. As soon as you leave maths for more than a week you have to invest some extra time to refresh many of the concepts.

You're at the 90th percentile already. Unless it is imperative that you get a brilliant Q score, work harder on V.

If you need to get a 50 or 51, and you've done all the GMAT prep material out there, you could try tutoring HS or GMAT students. When you tutor, you learn a lot. Also, ask at your local HS for practice materials for math competitions (ASHME) or look on the web. I've just done so, and there's lots. Don't practice Q's with trigonometry or logarithms, as those topics won't be tested

Thanks psd and kevin. I'm not obesssed with a high math or with a high verbal score. I just want to make sure that I'm not leaving any stones unturned in my prep.

I think the silly mistakes are certainly a problem. This gets compounded when one keeps going on drilling down problems in math. I did the math practice sections yesterday from Kaplan. There are 6 PS sections on the CD and I did them non-stop; no breaks. I managed a 100% on the 1st 3, then 1 silly mistake in the 4th, then 2 in the 5th and 2 in the 6th. Decided to stop :) In other words, I realize that my brain gets lazy pretty soon and I need to train it to keep going.

Kap specific question: Are you guys using the timing on the CD? its certainly less than 2 mins a question on PS, and just over a minute for DS which I think is too less. How does Kap compare to the real deal in terms of the most difficult questions?

kevin, i do plan to run through some of your questions, though i feel that sometimes the enormity of calculation they need are beyond the GMAT. Of course, this might just be my laziness. I will keep your inputs in mind. Given that I'll soon be in the last month of prep, I have limited options about what to study.
