A car is driven first on a dirt road at a speed of 30
mph and then on a paved road with a speed of 60
mph. The total trip was 210 miles and took 4 hours.
How long did the car travel on the dirt road?
D= 30t
210-x= 60 (t-4)
Ans comes as 5
But, the right answer given is 1

Let time on dirt road be x hours
So time on paved road = (4-x) hours
Total distance is 210 miles.
30x + 60(4-x) = 210
Solving for x, x=1 hour
That is your answer.
So time on paved road = (4-x) hours
