Can someone explain this problem to me?
Which of the following is (are) a multiple of 54 x 143 x 65?
I. 5^2x 14^2 x 6^4
II. 35 x 21^2 x 512
III. 24^4 x 25^3
IV. 15^4 x 2^8
Your answers should be: I, II, IV
Here is how I am trying to figure it out:
First break down the first part (54x143x65) into:
3^3x2x13^2x11x5
I am stuck after this. If I were to answer I would say it is 4 only (maybe 3 ). Why 1 and 2? How can you manipulate those numbers(3^3x2x13x11x5x13) into a 14^2, a 21^2 or a 35? Wouldn't you need a factor of 7 somewhere in there? I know that it is probably something small and stupid that I missed, but I can't seem to get the answer.
To add to my confusion, I used a calculator to check it out.
54x143x65=501930
35 x 21^2 x 512=7902720
24^4 x 25^3=5184000000
15^4 x 2^8=12960000
501930 doesn't go into ANY of those numbers evenly. Is my calculator broken or something?
I did a search for this problem and didn't find anything. If someone else already asked this question I'm sorry.
