Answer is B.

[1] A+B=p
[2] B=A+10
[3] C=(p/4)+A

Now, plug eq. [2] into eq. [1]:

A+A+10=p
2A+10=p
2A=p-10
A=(p/2)-5

Now plug this new eq. into eq. [3]:

C=(p/4)+(p/2)-5
C=(p/4)+(2p/4)-5
C=(3p/4)-5

they list the OA as B; but I took the line Brian and (+) Cubby weigh p/4 more than Andrea to mean:

B+C=A +p/4

which gives you an answer choice that isn't available. I guess I need to be more careful... ??

Gmatiscoming congratulations ! I believe that you found a mistake in PR !!!

your logic about B+C is correct ! PR wording is wrong.

I have the PR and the mistake clearly comes from Cubby weight. The official explanation states that Cubby weight is P/4 punds more then Andrea while the stem clearly states that Brain and Cubby togther whigh P/4 more then Andrea !!! .

should I E-Mail PR ?

I never even thought to think of singular vs. plural on this question... i guess you really have to be careful on the GMAT; but the line says "Brian and Andrea's dog, Cubby, weighs p/4"

so this almost becomes a grammar question too. but, shouldn't it be
"Brian and Andrea's dog each weigh p/4 pounds more than Andrea"???

its easy guys........

A=P-B
B=A+10
C=A+ P/4

we need C.........
so, find A in terms of p.......
substitute value of B in first eq......

=> A=(P-10)/2
put the value of A in third eq......... and simplify.........

Before you spend too much time on this one - be warned - I don't think the correct answer is amoung the choices; I could be wrong.

Together Andrea and Brian weigh p pounds. Brian weighs 10 pounds more than andrea. Brian and Andrea's dog, Cubby, weighs p/4 more pounds than andrea. In terms of p what is Cubby's weight in pounds?

a (p/2) -10
b (3p/4) -5
c (3p/2)-5
d (5p/4)-10
e 5p-5


Answer is B.

Solve from the options.

put (3p/4) - 5 = A + (p/4)

Solve for A and B and then see which equations satisfies A + B = P
