If x = 3, then 2x = 4, then 7+2x = 11, and the carry over would be the '1' shown in the question. Ans C

I do it the following way...

(7(10)+x) + (10x+y) + (10x+x)=117

22x+y=47

now, only 2 values of x will work here..1 or 2..

if x=1, y=25 which is not possible y is a unit digit..

x=2, then y=3 sufficient

short and sweet method!
