The members of a new recruiting class are taking a physical test and those who score at the bottom 16% will have to retest. If the scores are normally distributed and have an arithmetic mean of 72, what is the score at or below which the recruits will have to retest.
(1) There are 500 recruits in the class
(2) 10 recruits scored 82 or higher
I think this one is C.
However, it test your knowledge of normal distribution concept, which I am not sure if it is tested in GMAT.
(1) INSUFFICIENT. Without knowing actual score, we can't find anything.
(2) INSUFFICIENT. We don't know how many people there are. Therefore, cannot conclude anything. there might be thousands, ten thousands, etc...
Together, you know that 10 people scored 82 or higher. Out of 500, you know that 10 people also score lower than 18. Using this idea, you can use similar concept and find out what is the score of 16% of the people.
