i get B 440
single digits = 9
double digits = 90*2 = 180
triple digits = 341*3 = 1023

9+90+341 = 440

First 9 house will need 9 plates
next(99-10+1) 90 houses will need two each so, 180 plates
remaining 1212-189 = 1023 plates will be used for 3 digit numbers, total houses 1023/3 = 341 houses.
total 341 + 9 + 90 = 440.

whats digit plates?

Digit plates are the plates with digits

0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

they use these digit plates to number houses, for example:

house number 110, will need two plates with number 1 on each and one plate with number zero on it.
house number 444, will need three plates with number 4 on each.

OA is B.

IMO, here we are concerned only with number of plates, not with what number each plate has.

nope. thats not correct.

all digits from 0-9 must be there on 1212 plates. if suppose 8 is not there, then you cannot have houses with numbers such as 8, 88, 128, 885 etc. In this case, the number of houses will be reduced with the number of plates..


it seems that the question has not asked explicitely how many plates with a given digit is made but in fact implicitely this is the question.
