A certain tank is exactly one quarter full of water. At noon a valve is opened allowing water to pour into the tank at the rate of 90 gallons an hour. Half an hour later, the tank is exactly one third full. How many gallons of water does the tank hold when it is completely full?

Let full capacity = X
(X/4) + 45 = (X/3)
3X + 540 = 4X
X = 540

It would be 540.

1/3-1/4=1/12=amount filled up within 30 min.

90 gallons an hour/2 = 45 gallons in 30 min

45x12=540

Alternatively, the increase is 1/3 - 1/4 = 1/12
and 1/12th = 45gallons

Therefore 12/12th (or 1) = 45 * 12 = 540
