If a = b; \(\frac{a }{ b}\) will always be 1, except when a = b = 0
Statement 1
(1) a/b = 3
The presence of b in the denominator tells us that \(b \neq{0}\)
Therefore \(a\neq{b}\)
Sufficient and we can eliminate B, C and E.
Statement 1
(2) a = 3b
One might be tempted to divide by 'b' on both the sides, but HOLD ON !
We don't know if 'b' is zero.
If \(b = a = 0\); the answer to the question Is a = b ? is Yes !
If \(a = b \neq{0}\) ; the answer to the question Is a = b ? is No !
The statement is not sufficient.
