\((x-y)^2 = x^2 + y^2 - 2xy\) --- (1)
Statement 1
(1) \(x^2+y^2=8\)
Statement 1 is not sufficient as it doesn't provide enough information.
Statement 2
(2) \((x+y)^2=4xy\)
\(x^2 + y^2 + 2xy = 4xy\)
\(x^2 + y^2 = 2xy\)
As \(x^2 + y^2 = 2xy\), substituting the same in (1)
\((x-y)^2 = 2xy - 2xy = 0\)
Sufficient.
