Hi guys ,
Please help me with the following DS question frm GMAT prep
The ratio of women to children = 5/2 . what is the number of men .
(1) number of children to number of men = 5/11
(2) Number of women < 30 .
I couldnt do it correctly. Tell me your opinion.
Thanks
Let C= no. of childrens M=no of mens and W= no of womens
From statement 1 we have C=5/11 *M. Insufficient
From statement 2 we have w<30 . Insufficient.
Taking statements 1 and 2 together we have C=5/11 * M and W<30. And form the question we have C=2/5 *W.
Okay now lets find all the possible values of W. Now as C=2/5*W we can not have W=28 or 26 or any number that is not multiple of 5. Therefore all the possible values of W are 5,10,15,20 and 25.
Similarly lets find all the values of C. The possible values of C considering the possible values of W are 2,4,6,8 and 10. Okay so far so good.
Now as M= 11/5*C,C must be a multiple of 5. The only value of C that is multiple of 5 is C=10. So putting this value in M=11/5 * C we have the value of M = 22. Thus the answere is C.
