If x is equal to either 2/3 or 3/8 and y is equal to either x/2 or x/3, what is the value of y?
x is equal to 2/3 or 3/8;
y is equal to 1/3, 2/9, 3/16 or 1/8 (x/2 or x/3).
(1) x-y = y --> x=2y --> y can be 1/3 (x=2/3) or 3/16 (x=3/8). Not sufficient.
(2) x+y = 1 --> there is only one pair of x and y which add up to 1: x=2/3 and y=1/3. Sufficient.
