Stmt 1: limits x to be 450<x<500. Thus values of x+y can range betwee 800<x+y<950...obviously not enough since the closest multiple can be either 800 or 900. Stmt2: limits y to be 350<y<400. Thus values of x+y will be in the range 800<x+y<950...not enough

also i really didnt understand what the ques is saying.... pls explain that ..thanks a lot

Multiples of 100 - 100, 200, 300, 400,500....etc You have a number X and it is said that 500 is a closest multiple of 100 to X. Consider example x=470...the closest multiple of 100 to x is 500. X= 535=> closest multiple of 100 to x is still 500. if x=560 => closest multiple of 100 to x is 600...hope it helps...
Closest to x+y Given 500 is closest to x and 400 is closest to y Range of x 451-549 Range of y (351-449) Stmt1 X<500 so range of x is 451-499, Range of y (351-449) Then range x+y =802 -948 Here the closest multiple of 100 can be both 800 and 900. So stmt1 alone is not sufficient Stmt2 y<400 so Range of y is 351-399, range of x is 451-549, Then range x+y =802 -948 Here the closest multiple of 100 can be both 800 and 900. So stmt2 alone is not sufficient Comining both X<500 so range of x is 451-499 y<400 so Range of y is 351-399 Then range x+y is 802-898 Here the closest multiple of 100 can be both 800 and 900 Hence both the stmts together are not enough Please correct if I’m wrong
