Could some one please help me understanding following question?

Stock Number of shares
V 68
W 112
X 56
Y 94
Z 45

The table shows the number of shares of each of the 5 stocks owned by Sami. If Mr. Sami was to sell 20 shares of the stock X and buy 24 shares of Stock Y, waht would the increase in the range of the numbers of shares of the 5 stocks owned by Mr. Sami?

It must be D

the old range is 112-45 = 67
selling 20 shares of X = 36 shares
adding 24 sharing of Y = 118 shares

new range is 118-36 = 82

thus difference is 82-67 = 15

Range = Max-Min
Presently,
Max=n(W)=112
Min=n(Z)=45
 Current Range = 112-45=67
 
If,
n(X)=56-20=36
n(Y)=94+24=118

Now,
Max=n(Y)
Min=n(X)

Range After the purchase and sell=118-36=82

Increase in Range=82-67=15.

Ans: "D"

now

X 56-20 = 36
Y 94+24 = 118
Z 45

Range = 118-36

Increase in range = 118-36 -(112-45) = 118-36-112+45 = 6+9 = 15

Answer should be D = 15

My understanding of what "range" does mean was not correct.
