I got 9/40 as well.

I believe the forumla for a range of numbers which is inclusive on both sides =

(x1-x2) + 1

Could be wrong though.

Set A contains positive integers from 101 to 500, inclusive. What is the probability that a number N, which first digit is 1,2, or 3 and last digit is 4, 5, or 6, can be selected randomly?


prob of 1,2,3 being first digit = 3/4
prob of 4,5,6 being last digit = 3/10

answer 9/40
