A taxicab fare costs x dollars for the first quarter of a mile and 1/4*x dollars for each quarter of a mile after that. How much will the total cost be for a 3/2 mile ride?

A. 3x
B. 13/4*x
C. 10x
D. 5/4*x
E. 2.5x

First quarter mile - x dollars
Each succesuive quarter mile - x/4 dollars.

3/2 miles = 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 miles
Total fare = x + 5*(x/4) = 9x/4 dollars.

I think there is a typo in the answer choices.

I think it should be 5/2 instead 3/2, then OA will be correct :-)
