gave 30% of total that is 9

more then 30% of playmates means more than 3 playmates ...so for child to get maximum back ...only 4 plamates ate the candies and 5 gave back ...

so child will end with 21 + 5 = 26

what is OA ..?

If I understand the question correctly....

Playmates = 0.3*30 = 9

Child|leftover = 21

Playmates|eat > 1/3 * 9 = 3

If assume that the Playmate ate 4 pieces of candy, then 5 pieces will be returned to the child.

Child|Total = 21 + 5 = 26

30% of 30 = 9. So X has 21 candies now. 1/3 of 9 = 3 since more than a third ate, implies atleast 4 playmate ate. So the remaining is 5 which was given back. 21 + 5 = 26. Hence C.
