It's 2

We need the number of people who ranked Villanova infront of both Columbia and Stanford.

Total of 60 people

V is worse = 36

24 people left

(VC+VS) - (people left) =

6+20-24=2

Could you please explain a bit more on this???

I remember doing a different question just like this one. Same numbers but the schools were different.

ps_dahiya,

i used a simple venn diagram to solve this question.

n(u) = 60 . - u is the universal set.
let C be columbia and s be stanford.
n(CUS) = 60 -36 = 24.

N(C) - number fo ppl who have voted V >C
n(S) - Number for ppl who voted V >S.

N(C INT S) - number for ppl who voted for V >C and S.

N (CUS) = n(C) + N(S) - n(C INT S)
=> 24 = 6 + 20 - X

Therefore x = 2.

I,m not sure, but I appproached that like this:

Total=Worsrt+Second Worst (over Columbia)+Second Worst(Over Stanford)-Neither (Best)

60=36+20+6-Best
===>60=62-2
===>Best=2
