Since we don't have enough information to explicitly calculate, we'll look at the minimum and maximum.
This is a Logical approach.

The salesperson's commission is at least 5% of 800 = $40. (A),(D) are eliminated.
The salesperson's commission must be less than 8% of 800 = $64. (C), (E) are eliminated.
Since the only answer in our range is (B), this must be our answer.

(B) is our answer.

IMO B as till 600*5% and then on 200*8% which is 30+16=46.

Hi all,

I think the wording of the question is a little bit confusing as it says that the first commission is earned on all sales Between $200 and $600. So as I understood from the question, commission is not earned on sales up to $200. Correct me if I am wrong but shouldn't it be up to $600?

And by that method ( of going with the exact wordings of commission given only over $200 sales ) we get -

$600 - $200 = $400 * 5% = $20 (1)

$800 - $600 = $200 * 8% = $16 (2)

So $20 + $16 = $36. Option D.

Bunuel can you please help us get rid of this ambiguity?
