Question is quite simple! 

A certain brand of paint is only available in gallon containers, costs $24, and covers 250 sq ft of wall space. If the wall of a room that jake wants to paint have a total surface area of 1223 sqft, and if he wants to add a second coat to the walls, how much will jake need to spend on paint

My answer and concerns!

I consider second coat as only one coat! I can have white color on my wall and want second coat of same color! I thought second coat is just ploy! but infact OA says second coat means two coat's

How many of you agree, or my verbal is too bad :wink:

Yes, question is little confusing but when you read bold parts then you it makes sense.

 If the wall of a room that jake wants to paint  have a total surface area of 1223 sqft,  and if he wants  to add  a second coat  to the walls

So jake first wants to paint and then wants to add a second coat. I solved this for two coats without reading your second post.

But where does it say it want to do first coat with same color. Why can't first coat be done way before second coat ! 

Any way you must be right as OA is same as your explaination!

I think this way you can also assume that one gallon of one color and second gallon of diffrent color and so on. For which color we have to find the cost. But too many assumptions from our side can also do much harm.

(1223 * 2)/250 *24

GMAT rewards narrow thinking!

1225/250 * 24 * 2 = 235.2

I'll go with 240 dollars. (although 264 will do the trick too)
